How to become GREAT? | Matthew 20 Devotion

In Matthew 20, Jesus shared the parable of the workers, where the workers who worked longer complained about receiving the same wage as those who worked less. Jesus responded by saying, "So the last will be first, and the first will be last" (Matthew 20:16 NIV).

This parable reminds us that everything we have is from God because He is our provider, and we didn't work for it. No matter how religious or hardworking we are, we must recognize that we are God's stewards and servants. We should not compare ourselves with others and their possessions, but rather focus on being humble and serving God with all that we have.

Then Jesus said to His disciple who wants (TO BE GREAT) to sit with Lord Jesus in His Kingdom in later verse,

“Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:26-28 NIV

Jesus taught that to be great, we must become a servant, just as He did. He came to serve, not to be served. Being a servant means acknowledging that everything we have, including our business, money, house, and family, belongs to the Lord. We are merely stewards of these blessings, and we should always strive to be humble and serve others with love and compassion.

As His servants, we must not worry when things don't go as planned in our business, work, or finances. Instead, we should seek God's guidance and wisdom because He is our boss, and He knows what's best for us. As we continue to serve Him faithfully, He will bless us in ways that we cannot imagine.

In conclusion, let us remember that our hard work does not guarantee success and greatness in life. Instead, let us strive to become servants of God, doing His work with humility. Serving him is Honoring His words. His promise is that as we honor Him by serving, we will become great, and our lives will be filled with joy and fulfillment as the Lord promised in Deuteronomy 28:1-14.
