How to be a wise and innocent Christian: Insights from Matthew 10 | a Slice of Life Devotion

Updated: Mar 6, 2023

"I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves." (Matthew 10:16 NIV)

In this passage, Jesus urges his disciples to be wise like serpents and harmless like doves. Snakes are often associated with shrewdness, while doves represent innocence and purity. As Christians, we must be discerning of others' intentions and actions, especially in a sinful world.

We are called to spread the message of God's Kingdom, but we must also be careful and wise in our interactions with others. Saying no to certain requests can demonstrate strength, wisdom, and maturity. It's important to remember that we cannot win souls on our own; only Jesus can do that. The Holy Spirit can help us discern people and their intentions, so we can be wise and innocent as we fulfill God's mission.
