As I read Mark 5:15 AMP, I couldn't help but be drawn into the story of the man who was once demon-possessed. Can you imagine how terrifying it must have been for the people who saw him in that state? But when they returned, they saw something miraculous - the same man sitting calmly, dressed, and in his right mind. It was a scene that left them frightened and in awe of Jesus' power.
But what led up to this moment? Jesus had just arrived in Gerasenes and encountered the demon-possessed man called "Legion." Even though the demons begged not to be cast out, Jesus allowed them to enter a herd of pigs. And just like that, the pigs ran into the sea and drowned.
At first, it might seem puzzling why Jesus would allow such a thing to happen. But when we consider the people's reaction, it becomes clearer. They were more concerned about their livelihood than the man's miraculous healing. Losing 2000 pigs was a significant blow to their economy, and they were frightened and asked Jesus to leave their region.
It's a stark contrast to how even the demons recognized Jesus' power and knelt before Him in homage (Mark 5:6). It makes me wonder how often we prioritize our earthly possessions over the miraculous work of God in our lives.
