In the parable of the sower in Matthew 13, Jesus describes how the condition of the soil affects the growth of the seed. As believers, we are called to be like the good soil that produces fruit when we receive God's Word. But how can we ensure that our hearts are ready to receive and understand God's message?
The scripture in Matthew 13:20-21 teaches us that receiving God's Word with joy is not enough. We need to have deep roots that can withstand trials and persecution. And this can only happen if we prepare our hearts before reading or hearing God's Word. Our reception of God's message is determined by the condition of our heart.
So how can we prepare our hearts to be a good soil for God's Word? The key is to have a humble and teachable heart. We should not only choose the parts of the Bible that make us feel good, but also meditate on the verses that challenge us and cut deep into our hearts.
As Hebrews 4:12 says, "For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." By allowing God's Word to penetrate deep into our hearts and transform us, we can produce the fruit that God desires.
In conclusion, as believers, we need to be intentional about preparing our hearts to receive God's Word. We should strive to be like the good soil that produces a bountiful crop. By having a humble and teachable heart, we can allow God's Word to transform us and produce the fruit that brings glory to Him.
